Give Beckenham a Town Centre Police Team

Beckenham is a thriving town centre, both during the day and at night. This is fantastic but we must keep residents, retail workers and visitors safe. That is why, alongside local Councillors, I am campaigning for a new Town Centre Police Team for Beckenham.

Town Centre Police teams are a dedicated focused specific issue in a town centre; in this case the focus for Beckenham would be shoplifting and the nighttime economy.

Unlike a Safer Neighbourhood Team, which covers an electoral ward, a town centre team only focuses on the defined town centre, they do not replace the Safer Neighbourhood team. This means having a Town Centre, means more police for Beckenham!

Having a dedicated team for the town centre will free up the Safer Neighbourhood Teams in Shortlands and Park Langley, Kelsey and Eden Park, Beckenham Town and Copers Cope, and Clock House to focus on the residential areas, and issues like car theft.

The petition reads:

We the undersign call on the Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, as the Police and Crime Commissioner for London to fund a new Town Centre Police team for Beckenham Town Centre. This will mean additional officers for our town, who can focus on keeping the town safe at night and reducing shoplifting in the area.
