Sadiq Khan is cutting the frequency of the 227 bus service. From late June, buses will run on the route every 10 minutes instead of every 8 between 6.45am and 8pm on weekdays, and 8.30am and 6.45pm on Saturday. This is the latest cut to buses in Outer London from the Labour Mayor of London.
The popular route between Crystal Palace and Bromley North; which services Crystal Palace, Penge, Beckenham, Shortlands and Bromley, will have 84 fewer buses per week under the changes. Despite the route being well used and busy even during off peak services.
Conservative London Assembly Member for Bexley and Bromley, Thomas Turrell AM, is campaigning against the cuts. Sign the petition below to protect this popular and well used bus service.
Sign the petition below calling on Sadiq Khan to maintain a service every 8 minutes.
We the undersign call on Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, as Chair of Transport of London to maintain the 227 at current levels.
The 227 is a popular and well used service. It often fills up early on its journey and is crowded at off peak times. Reducing the frequency of the 227 to every 10 minutes means 84 fewer services each week. This reduction will lead to overcrowding on the remaining services.
Making these continued cuts to bus services in Outer London boroughs like Bromley will only deter people from using the bus and further decrease passenger numbers, leading to more cuts. Cutting these services directly contradicts the Mayor’s ambition to increase journeys made on public transport. Instead of making services more crowded and uncomfortable, the Mayor and TfL should be looking at ways to open new travel corridors to provide more capacity between Crystal Palace and Bromley.
We therefore call on the Mayor of London to ensure the current services on the 227 are maintained and not reduced.
