A community letter, signed by schools, businesses, sports clubs, churches, and community groups, calling for the Superloop to stop in Bexley Village, was presented to the Deputy Mayor for Transport today.
The letter, organised by Louie French MP, Thomas Turrell AM, Councillor Kurtis Christoforides and Councillor Cameron Smith, follows a petition signed by more than 2,300 residents. Old Bexley Primary School, Beths Grammar School, Bexley Village Business Association, Bexley Cricket Club, Dartfordians RFC, Burnt Ash Hockey Club, Bexley Team Ministry, and many local businesses signed it.
The Superloop route bypasses Bexley Village, even though it is often faster between Bexleyheath and Sidcup due to heavy congestion on Penhill Road. Residents overwhelmingly want the Superloop permanently rerouted past Bexley Village, with a stop at the War Memorial.
Adding a Superloop bus stop in Bexley Village would provide the community with an express bus route to the Elizabeth Line, Bromley, and Queen Mary's Hospital. It would support local businesses and increase passenger numbers on one of the least-used Superloop routes in London.
Louie French MP, Thomas Turrell AM, Councillor Cameron Smith and Bexley Council's Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods met Seb Dance today to discuss the campaign and agreed to discuss it further in the new year.
Louie French MP said:
"It's simple common sense to add a Superloop bus stop in Bexley Village. Transport for London needs more passengers and there is a large community desparate for the express bus service. It makes no sense to skip the village."
Thomas Turrell AM said:
"This is a win-win for everyone. Transport for London needs the passengers and Bexley Village wants the Superloop. There's no good reason to ignore the community's call for the express bus service."
Councillor Cameron Smith said:
"The entire community is behind this campaign. More than 2,300 people signed the petition, and every local school, business and group is supporting the call. It's time Transport for London listened."
