Glebe Way Leak Expected to be Fixed in January 2025

Glebe Way

Councillors for West Wickham and Hayes & Coney Hall Wards, where Thomas Turrell is also London Assembly Member, have secured works from Transport for London(TfL) to repair a leak from a natural spring in Glebe Way which has blighted the street.

Glebe Way is a Red Route, which is a road maintained by TfL, not Bromley Council. Along the road, there has been a leak from a natural spring that has been causing moss to grow on the street. This has created slippery conditions, especially in wet weather. Residents raised this with Councillors and Thomas took up the issue with TfL, who have now investigated the cause and drawn up plans for a repair. The works have now been added to the TfL works schedule and are expected to take place in January.

Councillor Mark Brock, who represents West Wickham Ward, said:

“I am pleased to see that progress is finally being made, as this has gone on for too long. This is a busy path and there are many care homes in Glebe Way. I have seen on social media and in e-mails from local people some of the injuries people have received when slipping on the surface. It is a shame that the works could not be completed in the autumn before the freezing weather begun.”

London Assembly Member, Councillor Thomas Turrell, added:

“TfL need to improve their proactive monitoring of the pavements and roads they manage. This has taken so long to resolve because, when we raised the matter in the summer, they had to investigate the cause and identify a solution. I thank the officers involved in this and I am pleased the work is now due to be completed but it has been too reactive and slow, especially given that people have been hurt due to the slippery conditions.”
