Weekly Report Back: 7th July

Sunday, 13 July, 2025
My Report Back from City Hall and across the constituency for the week of the 7th July 2025.

Vehicle theft is on the rise across Bexley and Bromley. Having your car, bike, or van stolen isn’t just inconvenient — it can mean the difference between making a day’s wage, losing a client, missing a school run, or being unable to support family and loved ones.

It also pushes up insurance premiums, leaving Londoners worse off.

According to DVLA data, Beckenham, West Wickham, Welling, Bexleyheath, Erith, Bromley, and Bexley all rank among the top 30 UK towns for vehicle theft. Shockingly, 8 of the top 10 are in London. The Mayor must act now.

These vehicles aren’t being taken by opportunists — this is the work of organised gangs, stealing cars to order, breaking them up for parts, or shipping them abroad.

Tackling vehicle theft won’t just reduce insurance premiums for families — it will make our boroughs safer.

That’s why I’m asking for your help.

📝 Take my vehicle theft survey and share your views. I want to hear your experiences, so I can push the Mayor to take real action — including proposals like:

Should the police be given access to live ANPR data from ULEZ cameras?
This simple change could help officers track down stolen vehicles quickly — before they’re stripped or smuggled overseas.
